Andrew
Hibbard
Eagle Scout
Andrew
Hibbard
was awarded the Boy Scouts of
America’s highest rank, Eagle Scout,
during a Court of Honor
on May 11, 2010 at
St. Michael’s Church in Cary,
NC. Andrew
is a member of Troop 216 in Cary and
is the son of John Hibbard and Anna
DeFelice, of Apex. He
officially
earned the rank of Eagle Scout
on March 10, 2010 at the age of 17.
Andrew
is
the 74th Eagle Scout in Troop 216 since
it was founded in 1978.
The troop
is led
by Scoutmaster Chuck Gay and is
sponsored by the Knights of Columbus at
Saint
Michael the Archangel
Catholic Church.
The
presentation
of the Eagle neckerchief took
place during the spring Court of Honor
for Troop 216 and was performed
by
Scoutmaster Chuck Gay.
Andrew then
presented his parents with the Eagle
parent’s pin and his
advisor, Scoutmaster
Chuck Gay, with a mentor pin.
Andrew
began
his scouting career as a Tiger Cub with
Pack 316 at St. Andrews Catholic Church
in Apex, NC where he
subsequently
earned all of the Cub Scout ranks,
numerous belt loops and pins, as
well as Cub
Scouting’s highest award, the Arrow of
Light, before bridging
to BSA Troop 216
in March 2004.
During
his
tenure with Troop 216, Andrew earned
the Ad Altare Dei Catholic Religious
award, the mile swim and 50 mile
patch as
well as being inducted into the Order of
the Arrow, the scouting honor
organization. Andrew
considers
the
highlights of his scouting career to be
his high adventure trips: a
2009 canoe
trip at the Northern Tier scout
reservation in northern Minnesota,
and an island adventure at the Florida
Keys Sea Base in 2010.
The
BSA
program heavily emphasizes leadership
skills, and throughout his career with
Troop 216, Andrew held numerous
leadership positions, including
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol
Leader,
Assistant Patrol Leader, and Troop
Guide. As
required
by the Boy Scouts of America, a
candidate for Eagle Scout
must plan, develop, and lead others in a
community service project.
Over
three days, Andrew led over 20 scouts
and several adults in the design and
construction of three wheelchair
accessible cedar gardening tables for
the Rex Nursing Care Center of
Apex. Each
table
has three removable planter boxes
and was built on casters so they can be
moved around the facility.
A
senior at Apex
High
School, Andrew is a
member of the Academy
of Information
Technology
program and is involved in the
Science Club and the Math Club.
